What do you think of LG vs Kenmore refrigerators? Which one should I get?
Kenmore fridges are solidly reliable as long as you avoid those with bottom freezers and ice makers.
Both of those things are convenient.
The bottom freezers accumulate more moisture than their top freezer counterparts, leading to more ice and issues with leakage onto the floor. Their ice makers are problem-prone from freezing to flooding.
What do you think of LG fridges?
LG fridges are horrible. They have everything from moisture control problems to electrical issues.
Can you be more specific?
LG fridges have problems with the compressors going out. The shelves don't fit well, while the control panels have problems.
I think all control panels have their quirks.
It is as unresponsive as an elevator control panel. It delivers ice when it wants to, not when you want it to.
What about the overall design?
Shelves don't fit well. The fridge doesn't even have the decency to last until the end of the warranty like all the other competitors.
That's something to call into customer service.
LG has customer service only in theory. You have to call at least once to service help, and their techs come out way to many times to fix the issue.
You want techs to come out and fix the problem.
But you don't want someone who takes three trips to solve the problem, much less one who charges you for each trip.
That would quickly add up to more than the cost of the fridge.
LG fridges are cheap, but not quite that cheap.
So which fridges should I get?
Kenmore. It costs a little more, but they have the decency to design one that will last at least as long as the warranty.
